For your test, here's a short list of what you'll need...
Your study material (they'll let you look over the questions/flashcards etc beforehand...after you're on your own)
No 2 Pencil (to mark off the answers)
Calculator (remember to clear memory or the VE will do it for you)
Identification (if it's your first time, you'll need a license/state id, copy of report card, and/or your current license)
Fee payments (as the VE needs to recoup for his time, money, and services)
After the test...you will need equipment. The equipment you'll need (once you're in the ULS) is:
The radio Itself: Good starter is a handheld that is a 2 meter/70 cm, or 2 meter/70 centimeter rig.
Antenna: You will need to get a good antenna for your rig (Check with local zoning ordinances...because trouble will start)
A receiver: You really will need this to find out what others are doing (you don't need a licences to receive but you do need one to transmit)
Technical meters. This is just to keep your equipment in tip-top shape.
This is just some of the things you will need for your test and for your operating privlages.
